Find Your Local Council on Aging.

Every Massachusetts city and town has a Council on Aging (COA) that connects older adults and their families with community programs, transportation, benefits assistance, wellness activities, outreach services, and referrals to local and regional resources. If you're unsure where to begin, your local COA is an excellent first stop.    

Area Agencies on Aging  

Area Agencies on Aging are regional organizations that help families understand available programs, determine eligibility, and coordinate services. Many programs are provided at no cost.

Services include:

  • Information and referral

  • Care consultations and guidance

  • Caregiver support groups and training

  • Assistance with health care proxy planning

  • Protective services and support

  • Help navigating long-term care insurance and coverage decisions

AgeSpan

The Area Agency on Aging (AAA) serving older adults, caregivers, adults with disabilities, and veterans throughout the Merrimack Valley and portions of the North Shore. The nonprofit connects residents with information, care coordination, nutrition programs, caregiver support, and other services that promote independence, health, and safety.

Specialized Support Resources  

Specialized support organizations provide education, support groups, wellness programs, and trusted resources for individuals living with Alzheimer's, dementia, or Parkinson's disease, as well as the families and caregivers who support them.​​

Alzheimer's Association (MA/NH Chapter)

Free resources and support for individuals living with Alzheimer's and other forms of dementia, as well as their families and caregivers. Services include a 24/7 helpline, care consultations, support groups, educational programs, and an online community offering guidance, connection, and practical caregiving resources.​

The Charlotte & Richard Okonow Prkinson's Family Support Program Offers:

​Education, referrals, and professionally facilitated support for individuals and families affected by Parkinson's disease. Resources include a twice-monthly virtual North Shore Care Partner Support Group and a monthly Adult Child Support Group, providing guidance, practical strategies, and connection for those caring for a loved one with Parkinson's.
